3.03 Open Edition Revision B (Custom Firmware)
Dark_Alex has just released his newest revision of his custom firmware for the PSP, Revision B of 3.03 Open Edition (OE). Seems like Dark_Alex has been more concerned about the PSP consumers than Sony is, issuing tons of new firmware updates (only updatable on 3.03 OE which was made possible by using firmware see full description » 1.50), so be sure to give him a huge thanks! With full resolution support for MP4-AVC videos (previously limited on Sony firmwares), you can now enjoy all your videos at "DVD quality" like it was meant to be. Having used PMP Player (which supported 480x270 resolution), this update adds the functionality directly into this new update. You'll have to have 3.03 OE-A already installed onto your PSP in order to update to OE-B. Installation is easy as pie, just drag the PSP folder (found within MS_Root of the download) to your PSP's root directory and run the update eboot from your PSP's game directory like any other OE update which will only take a short duration since it is only flashing a few files onto it, not the entire firmware. Here's the newest additions to the world's greatest PSP firmware (at the moment) - * Patched the firmware to allow decrypted mp4-AVC videos to play at 480x272 resolution. * pic0.png was not shown in psp isos. Fixed. * The speed functions were not dummied after setting the speed. This could cause the few games that set the cpu speed not to run at the selected speed in the recovery menu. * Changed the structure of the program to have more free ram in game mode. * sysmemp.prx removed, systemctrl.prx splitted into systemctrl.prx and vshctrl.prx « hide |

3.30 OE-A'
Within the past few days, PSP owners were kept on the edge of their seats by reports of FW 3.40 in South Korea and in Japan. Well, soon enough, the latest firmware version for the Sony handheld soon reached North American shores, and without fail, coders and homebrew devs set to work on it immediately. And see full description » who else would keep the ball rolling but Dark_AleX? Well, now that the whole community is in motion again, the great DAX is leading the pack and has just produced a couple of more updates. The first is the release of custom firmware 3.40 OEA, and for this update, he notes the following improvements that were made from 3.30 OE-A to 3.40 OE-A: * Updated from 3.30 firmware to 3.40 * Security patch: Fixed a bug that has been in all 3.XX OE, that caused random data to be written to a location in lcdc.prx or (in worst case) emc_sm.prx ram space. * Autboot that is missing since 3.03 OE-C has been reimplemented. * Improvements in the flasher. It will now generate also the flash1 directories, and it will check that the dxar is the correct for this update, so no more bricks by accidentally using other DATA.DXAR. Meanwhile, he has also updated 3.30 OE-A to 3.30 OE-A', and in THAT update, the following fixes were implemented: * Security patch: Fixed a bug that has been in all 3.XX OE, that caused random data to be written to a location in lcdc.prx or (in worst case) emc_sm.prx ram space. * Autboot that is missing since 3.03 OE-C has been reimplemented. Now isn't that a lot to be happy about? In any case, as usual, ALWAYS READ THE README FIRST before you try to install any of these, as DAX has included some important installation instructions for both updates. Remember, you want to prolong the life of your PSP, and not shorten it, okay? « hide |

3.40 LE - Team Wildcard Custom Firmware
Well isn't this another big surprise? Earlier today we reported on the 3.40 OE reverse engineering development spearheaded by Team Wildcard. The goal of the project was to reverse engineer 3.10 and 3.40 OE, building a base for Team Wildcards future expansion of Dark Alex's Open Edition custom firmware which see full description » ended up getting leaked prematurely. Due to this leak, Team Wildcard decided to made an official release of their source code. Which is now being followed up by a official build of their new PSP custom firmware, titled 3.40 LE (LE standing for Leaked Edition). This release, which is an expansion originally based upon the reverse engineering of the 3.40 OE PSP custom firmware, brings all new features to the stalemate which Open Edition firmware was facing after Dark Alex decided to drop his PSP projects and development. recovery menu - Image 1 In addition to all the features previously offered by the 3.40 OE-A custom firmware, Team Wildcard brings us some great new features, such as: * Everything you know and love from 3.40 OE-A * A sexy new SCEP-style recovery menu * In-XMB configuration menu * Auto-detection of the kernel needed for homebrew - no need for GAME150 and GAME340; just put it all in GAME It's also interesting to note that Team Wildcard mentions, "We were also working on a 3.52 custom firmware with even more features which luckily was not leaked. But after recent events, we can no longer be sure if it will ever see the light of day." 3.40 LE - Installation Guide The installation overview should look very similar to the original OE firmware installation guide, thus installation should be a breeze for anyone who is currently on custom firmware. 1. Look inside the ZIP file for the folder that corresponds to your current firmware - either Custom Firmware or Firmware 1.50. To install 3.40*, you have to be on one of these. If you're not already on one of them, what are you waiting for? Downgrade! 2. Copy the *CONTENTS* of the MS_ROOT folder onto the *ROOT* of your memory stick. This means the place where the 'PSP' folder is. It'll probably tell you that it has to overwrite the PSP folder. This is OK; just click Yes. 3. Download the 1.50 and 3.40 firmware EBOOTs (search dl.qj.net for them). ( author note: included below ;) ) 4. Rename the 1.50 EBOOT to 150.PBP. 5. Rename the 3.40 EBOOT to 340.PBP 6. Put both of them *in* the folder "X:PSPGAMEWildcard All-in-one Flasher", alongside the EBOOT.PBP file. (X: is your PSP's Windows drive letter.) 7. Go into the PSP's Game menu, under Memory Stick, and run "3.40* All-In-One Updater". The installer will build the 3.40* DATA.DXAR file, then launch the flasher to install it. Follow the instructions on the screen TO THE LETTER and you'll be safe. Warning: You take complete responsibility for flashing your PSP's firmware. Be warned that an incorrect flash can damage your PSP or even render it useless (bricked). Make sure you read all information available (README) and follow directions to make sure you understand the risks and new features completely before flashing. Yada yada ;) So without further ado, download the 3.40 LE PSP custom firmware. Feel free to discuss or ask questions about Team Wildcard's latest release in their thread, located in our PSP Development forums. « hide |

3.40* LE from Team Wildcard v2
Thanks to a tip from wwwqwerty, we found out that Team Wildcard has released an update to their 3.40 LE firmware. The update is a patch that fixes some issues with the initial release of the custom firmware.
Here are the fixes for this version of 3.40* LE v2:
* Removed non-functional File see full description » Manager option in the Recovery menu * In recovery, detects ms0:/PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP and only launches it if it exists * Fixed problems that kept UMDs from loading properly * Added support for %__SCE__/__SCE__ homebrew naming style * Re-enabled the use of GAME150 and GAME340, though you *DO NOT* need them. Note, however, that you'll need to run this from 3.40* LE to get this patch to work. Also, Team Wildcard notes that if you're having an issue with the PSP not starting after you install, go into Recovery mode and disable all of your plugins. « hide |

By default is not enabled, you can enable it in recovery.
