NEOGEO Emulator for PSP 0.1.1
We already know that the NEOGEO emulator developer, NJ, is one helluva miracle worker! This guy works in a fast and efficient manner and the end product is well close to perfect. I could go on and on how immensely talented NJ and all the other developers are, but I'm afraid I won't have enough space for that. see full description » I would pay good money just to obtain a portion of their talents. Which brings us at this junction. Recently, the good developer has just released the official version of the NEOGEO Emulator for PSP, this is already version 0.1.1. Just to quote the author first, "this is the official version. There won't be such frequent updates like before. There won't be any more functional expansion but bug fix and speed improvements." We're good with that. So now, we go over to the changelog which is of course done by our resident translator, Jeff C. Changelog [ver 0.1.1 Changelog] - Fixed a bug that the BIOS selection screen cannot be opened before you play a game. - From this version, when you start the emulator, config and nvram files will be totally deleted (this should've been done in v0.1 but I forgot to). [ver 0.1 Changelog] This is the official version. There won't be such frequent updates like before. There won't be any more functional expansion but bug fix and speed improvements. - The emulation of watchdog has been changed. There are some games that has a part of their SRAM protected. When starting these games, some reset operations may occur. This is normal and plz don't mind. - The System Language Setting and Machine Mode can now be modified. Setting items has been added to the Game configuration menu. Yet, only "MVS BIOS" is support. *AES BIOS is not supported yet, because once the settings are changed, it won't accept any input. *uni-bios is not modified, because the BIOS can set itself. *I don't quite understand Debug BIOS so it's not supported yet. - Analog input implemented for irrmaze and popbounc. -The settings are added as an exclusive item, "Analog sensitivity", in the Key configuration menu. This setting can adjust the sensivity among 3 levels. -irrmaze (The Irritating Maze/Urudora Denryu Irairabou) No special setting is needed, you can go with the standard analog input. D-pad and analog are both usable in the game. -popbounc (Pop 'n Bounce/Gapporin) Digital input is set to default. When you want to use the analog input, you need to change the dip switch to start in test mode, then change the controller to PADDLE. - The accuracy of sound emulation in sound Test has been improved. Rather than conversion, the sample rate can no longer be specified. The sound will always be played under 44100Hz. - BIOS setting menu will be forced to open when specified BIOS cannot be found. - Other bugfixes. And as always, your constructive criticisms, observations, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated by the developer, since your comments fuel him to improve the app, and in the process, perfect and hone his craft. So don't hesitate to think out loud through your comments. « hide |

NEOGEO Emulator for PSP beta
These Japanese developers sure are miracle workers! In an effort to really improve their emulator and the gaming experience of those who download their work, they have come up with the NeoGeo Emulator for PSP Beta, after coming up with 3 Alpha releases. As you all know by now, this version would be supporting see full description » arcade romsets. With that, let's go over to the changelog, tirelessly translated by QJ's very own, Jeff C. Changes in Beta version: * Fixed a bug that froze quite some games. This was a initial miss. * Various CPU timer processing changes. A part of the sound-muted games may be fixed now. * Several fixes on the memory cache management. Changes in Alpha 3: * File reading method changed from judging from the file name to judging the CRC value of the file. However, the zip file name must be strictly the same with the MAME file name. The database for reading file is stored in "rominfo.dat". Non-working games are also included in this file, but plz never change the content of this file. You may make the program unable to startup by doing so. * With the changes above, MAME's clone sets are also possible to load now. * Created a swap zone on the memory stick, which made it possible to start large-sized games. However, you will have to use the enclosed converter to convert the sprite data in advance. Yet, the game may be started, but the play speed may not be decent. There may be some potential for optimization, but due to the physical limitations, the current speed has reached its limit. * Encrypted ROM sets like "Nightmare in the dark" are now supported. You will have to use the converter to create the cache data in advance. (KOF'99 and etc still not supported due to memory insufficiency.) * The following BIOS are now supported: * Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.0) * Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.1) * Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.2) * Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.3) * Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 2.0) * Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 2.1) * Debug MVS (Hack?) * Asia AES * (Items will not be displayed if you don't have them on the memory stick). You can download the universal BIOS from the universal BIOS page. (The official UNIVERSE BIOS homepage http://unibios.free.fr/index.html) Plz note that even you've changed the dip switch, Debug BIOS will still not be started in test mode. - Compatibility list updated. When using the eLoader, the required 2MB may be a little insufficient, so some games from the list may not be supported. - User interface simplified to save more memory for emulation. [How to use the Sprite ROM Converter v0.1] 1. Start the romcnv.exe with a double click in Windows. 2. With the file selection dialog shown, plz select the zip file of the game you want to convert. 3. If the conversion is necessary, ot should start by now. Yet, if you are trying to convert a clone set, the parent ROM must be present in the same folder. 4. In the cache filer, a file named "gamename_cache.zip" will be created, plz copy it into /PSP/GAMES/ngepsp/cache on your memory stick. The original game should be copied in to /PSP/GAMES/ngepsp/roms. 5. Now the game should work properly. « hide |

NEOGEO Emulator for PSP beta 2
The guys of the NeoGeo Emulator for PSP has just released an updated beta for the application. Now, you can get the NEOGEO Emulator for PSP beta 2, roughly nine days after releasing the first Beta for this new emulator that they are working on.
Although this emulator is still a work in progress or see full description » a diamond in the rough, surely the emulator guys are busy fixing up bugs and amping their features so as to give a really great gaming experience to the future users of this homebrew emulator. So your constructive observations, criticisms, and suggestions would be a great deal of help. For now, let's go over the changelog which was tirelessly translated by QJ's very own, Jeff C. Changelog for NEOGEO Emulator for PSP beta 2: - Games that were unable to start before can now be started with sound turned off. The ROM converter is no longer needed. Yet, the game is still far from playable due to the slow speed. Now, I'm not planning to make these games playable with sound on at all. - With the above change, the ROM Converter is updated. Encrypted ROMs are required to be converted. Small-sized games are also supported by the converter. Due to the problem that the file selection dialog doesn't show up in Windows 9X, I've moved to use the VC6 compiler. Moreover, you can now drag & drop zip files onto romcnv.exe to get it converted. - Bugs in CZ80 confirmed, so I changed to MAME Z80. I will use CZ80 again once it's fixed. - Timer processing changed. With this change, Cross Swords and some other games that suffered major framerate drop is now back to normal. - Sound processing changed, and the problem that the BGM was played slower than it should be is now fixed. There may be cases that the tempo slows down, but it is limited to the level that it doesn't interfere with the gameplay. Due to the lack of time, a fix from the bottom will be done later. - The saving format of SRAM is now the same with MAME. With this change, old files are all deleted. Also, if the BIOS is changed, the SRAM files will all be deleted too. - Functions used for sound debug is now revamped into a sound test function. However, since this is a very simple function, you can do nothing more than selecting a BGM and play. You can select the game you want in the file browser, then press Square button to proceed. Circle: Play the selected track number Cross: Stop the current playing track Triangle: Exit sound test L Trigger: Change the PSP clock (default 333MHz) R Trigger: Show help inf The music folder added in this version contains the list for music playback. The English version of the list is in the music/en folder. If a Japanese list is present, it will be used by default. If no list can be found, music/default.lst will be used by default. Yet, due to the bugs left in the sound-related code, it is possible that even when the list is present, the music may still not be played properly, or even completely not playable due to emulation bugs. This function is not meant for playing music from all the games, you need to make your own list in some cases. The format is shown below: $title: put the game name displayed in the title bar. $samplerate: specify the playback rate. Please put one of the 11025, 22050, 44100 in. All the enclosed lists are now 22050. $pre: put the bank number (2 digits Hex) before the playback command. Most of the games can just use the number "07". $stop: put the code for stopping the track playback. Though most of the games uses "03" as the reset code, I suggest using the stop code "20" instead. $start: the statement of the start of the track list. $end: the statement of the end of the track list. The track list should be added between the $start and $end tag. Please avoid putting redundant returns and comments there. In some cases it can freeze the whole program. The format is, after the 2-digit Hex code, add the track number after a half-width space. e.g.) $title=Metal Slug $samplerate=22050 $pre=00 $stop=03 $start 02 Neo Geo Logo 2b The Military System blah, blah, blah... 2c Nazca Logo $end Yet, the added track lists are mostly created from the lists of MAME E2J's Bridge M1. Changelog beta2 bugfix1: - Fixed the problem that some games cannot detect the completion of the BIOS initialization, thus leading the graphic refreshing stopped. Changelog beta2 bugfix2: - With the fix above, fixed the graphic refreshing problem with debug BIOS and Asia BIOS. « hide |
