3. How to put videos (movies) on your PSP?
To watch downloaded movie, clip or any other video on your PSP, you actually need to:
1. Get your video converted to MP4 format.
There are lots of formats to save a digital video in. You can read about video formats
here .
PSP supports MP4 and .H264 (MP4 part 10, AAC).
Don't get afraid, these titles are all you need to know to watch almost any video on your PSP.
There are free programs that convert your videos from any Internet-downloaded video into proper one that your PSP likes.
Please ensure to set audio frequency to 24000Hz (24Khz). If you set it to 48Khz PSP will not play saying "unsupported data".
2. Transfer it to your PSP and Enjoy!
You might be surprised, but since you converted your movie to MP4 format, the hardest part is over.
Let's now learn how to manually put your videos on PSP (PSP Video 9 does it automatically, but it's useful to know how to do it by hand).
The following simple instructions are for PC (Windows) users.
Mac users, please do the corresponding actions on your Mac, or contact our support team for help.
Get your PSP connected to your PC with the USB cable, or insert your Memory Stick into a card-reader.
Open "My Computer" and find a new drive there - your Memory Stick! It should have a remark "Removable drive". Suppose, it's assigned a drive letter "X:" (depends on what was your last drive letter before you plugged it in).
Now, there are two ways, and both of them are right. Some PSPs work with way number one, while others like approach number two. Some understand both.
Lets learn them both, just in case.
1. Create a folder on your Memory Stick called "MP_ROOT".
Inside the "MP_ROOT" folder, create a sub-folder called "100MNV01".
You can create more (101MNV01, 102MNV01 and so on) to organize your videos.
(smart part) Copy all your mp4 files into that folder (X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 ), renaming them so that they have "M4V" string at the beginning:
If you are using PSP v2.0, and you are putting Advanced AVC coded movies (.H264), you should put them into "X:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01 ", and rename them starting with "MAQ".
2. This one is simplier :).
Just create a folder "VIDEO" on your Memory Stick ("X:\VIDEO"). Then copy your files, without renaming them, into this folder.
3. Enjoy!
Plug your PSP off, start it. Go to Video -> Memory stick and enjoy your Videos! Now if your video player does not play videos correctly, or says codecs are missing, read further.
First of all, just try to open file with default software (QuickTime for Mac, WindowsMediaPlayer or your favorite one for Win).
If movie is playing good, congratulations!
And if not? Don't worry, the below is just for you.
(for Windows users)
Since the default Windows codec pack is quite small, you may have already encountered a problem when you either hear the sound of the movie, but do not see the video; either you see video with no sound; either video is cropped; or a movie just will not play whatever you try.
Most often this happens because there is a lot of "codecs" - ways to encode raw videos into AVIs, MPEGs and other formats. The algorythms (ways) are called codecs.
We recommend you to download free codec pack which includes most of the codecs in the world.
You can do it now or whenever you face any of the problem described above.
K-Lite Codec Pack
On the page that opens when you click the link above, choose any of the package (there are Basic, Standard and FULL ones). If you are not cut in bandwidth, we suggest you to take the FULL one (about 13Mb).
After that you download codec pack, follow installation instructions. Then just re-open movies that did not play before again, and enjoy!
(for Mac users)
Just download MPlayer and install it. Should solve all the problems :). And a few more variants to give you choice:
1. "All in one" or something like that :)
Download Codec Pack (you will need to choose your CPU type - PPC or Intel. If you do not know, try PPC first).
2. VLC Player
Some like this player for being one more "all-in-one", some don't saying it's "laggy". You can develop your own opinion by trying :).
3. DIY - Do It Yourself
Here is a discussion about the above solutions, and one more. You may read and/or ask your own questions there to find the very right solution for you.
We hope this helps you overcome all the problems with playing movies.
