Though some (TA-88v3 motherboard) can only run games if firmware is 5.03 and below.
You most likely have TA-88v3 motherboard if your PSP is Piano Black or from Madden 09 Limited Edition Pack, and your original firmware version was 4.xx.

Firmwares 5.03 and less can run Games. Above 5.03 cannot yet.
