About Sony, PSP, and UMD
Before you dig into this, let's understand the principles of homebrew gaming.
Sony is a great company that has created PSP. And they have also created UMD for PSP - a new protected disc format. You may read more about UMD, its specifications and critics around it by
clicking here (will open in a new window). The fact is that we can not burn our own UMD's at home, since Sony didn't let UMD writers into market. We can only buy pre-made UMD's, which many people find inappropriate in our quickly changing world.
These people created homebrew :).
About Homebrew
Homebrew games are those that are free, that may be easily downloaded and re-written as many times as you want onto your Memory Stick. It saves time and money to people, who want it.
Word to Sony Legal agents: we do not encourage people going homebrew, we just tell the truth. Please contact us for more infromation.
There are in times more homebrew games than those written on UMDs.
They may be launched on your PSP using UMD Emulator, DevHook and other applications created by smart people.
Legality
Is homebrew legal?
As far as we know, there is no law that forbids running homebrew. So we suppose it is legal. However, you may wish to contact a lawer for more detalied infromation.
Anyways, we are not responsible for your usage of this information below. We do not encourage you to do so. We just let you know it exists, trying to show how it may be used. The choice of buying games and movies on UMDs, or getting it for free is up to you.
Going Homebrew
If you decided to try homebrew games, you need to make your PSP enabled for homebrew, since originally it is disabled by caring Sony (except version 1.5).
Sony updates its firmware regularly, adding new homebrew protection in every update, that caring smart people try to remove. And sometimes they succeed :).
First of all, you need to find out what your PSP firmware version is.
Detecting Firmware Version
You may check your version by going to
Settings → System Settings → System Information on Your PSP.
You will see: "Your firmware version" and numbers following.
These numbers indicate your firmware version.
Homebrew Enabling Options
Downgrading your PSP is an easy step-by-step process, whichever firmware version you have.
We are ready to help you with questions arriving while following those guides.
Putting Game on PSP
Once your PSP is homebrew enabled, you are ready to play thousands of free games waiting for you!
We recommend you using UMD Emulator, which may be downloaded from your Member's Area.
99% of our PSP downloaded games are already in ISO/CSO format.
CSO games may easily be converted to ISO, using
this great tool.
Once you have a ready ISO, you may easily play it by putting into your ISO directory (will be created while installing UMD Emulator).
Please do not hesitate to contact us back should you need further assistance on that.
