To watch downloaded movie, clip or any other video on your PSP, you actually need to:
1. Get your video converted to MP4 format.
There are lots of formats to save a digital video in. You can read about video formats
here.
PSP supports MP4 and .H264 (MP4 part 10, AAC).
Don't get afraid, these titles are all you need to know to watch almost any video on your PSP.
There are free programs that convert your videos from any Internet-downloaded video into proper one that your PSP likes.
Both these tools are quite easy to use, and have instructions to help you, coming with them.
2. Transfer it to your PSP and Enjoy!
You might be surprised, but since you converted your movie to MP4 format, the hardest part is over.
Let's now learn how to manually put your videos on PSP (PSP Video 9 does it automatically, but it's useful to know how to do it by hand).
The following simple instructions are for PC (Windows) users.
Mac users, please do the corresponding actions on your Mac, or contact our support team for help.
- Get your PSP connected to your PC with the USB cable, or insert your Memory Stick into a card-reader.
- Open "My Computer" and find a new drive there - your Memory Stick! It should have a remark "Removable drive". Suppose, it's assigned a drive letter "X:" (depends on what was your last drive letter before you plugged it in).
- Now, there are two ways, and both of them are right. Some PSPs work with way number one, while others like approach number two. Some understand both.
Lets learn them both, just in case.
- 1. Create a folder on your Memory Stick called "MP_ROOT".
Inside the "MP_ROOT" folder, create a sub-folder called "100MNV01".
You can create more (101MNV01, 102MNV01 and so on) to organize your videos.
(smart part) Copy all your mp4 files into that folder (X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01), renaming them so that they have "M4V" string at the beginning:

If you are using PSP v2.0, and you are putting Advanced AVC coded movies (.H264), you should put them into "X:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01", and rename them starting with "MAQ".
- 2. This one is simplier :).
Just create a folder "VIDEO" on your Memory Stick ("X:\VIDEO"). Then copy your files, without renaming them, into this folder.
- 3. Enjoy!
Plug your PSP off, start it. Go to Video -> Memory stick and enjoy your Videos!
